Poem-A-Day for the Month of April - Day 23: Choice of Forms

Day 23: Choice of Forms
Today you are free to write whatever you wish.

I chose free verse to echo how often my thoughts freely return to Charles, not with sadness, but with thanksgiving and hope...

Easter, 2011
is late this year.
Three years and thirty days ago
Easter came in March,
propitiously sandwiched
between the funeral
and the burial
of the loving man who
for almost sixty-three years
had been,
and still is,
the other half
of me.

Twice during our parenting years, my husband fulfilled year-long overseas military assignments to places I could not go at that time. Our seven children and I had to learn to cope without his immediate advice, since airmail was the fastest communication.

He's gone, but I feel as if he is not dead, but merely serving another duty call.

The big difference is – I receive no airmail and write only about, rather than to him.
